Elon Musk seemed to extend an olive branch in the wake of his highly publicized riff with Donald Trump, expressing remorse for his remarks made on social media. Musk penned: "They went too far."

Amid a public sparring between the two billionaires, Musk made a series of explosive comments on X about Trump, including claiming the President would never have won the election had he not campaigned on his behalf.

The former DOGE head launched the attack after the president threatened to walk back on the SpaceX CEO's lucrative billion-dollar federal contracts.

The discord between Musk and Trump unfolded when Musk lambasted Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill," calling it egregiously excessive and slamming it as a "disgusting abomination."

Musk didn't mince words, writing on X, "I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

By the weekend, it appeared that Musk had deleted a number of the tweets, including a post in which he claimed without evidence that the government was concealing information about the president’s association with infamous pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Before Musk issued an apology, Trump told NBC's Kristen Welker in a phone interview that he has no plans to mend fences with Musk. "I would assume so, yeah."

Trump said when asked if he thought his relationship with the mega-billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was over.

"I'm too busy doing other things," Trump continued. "You know, I won an election in a landslide. I gave him a lot of breaks, long before this happened, I gave him breaks in my first administration, and saved his life in my first administration, I have no intention of speaking to him."

With rumors swirling about Musk potentially backing Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections, the president sounded a warning.

"If he does, he'll have to pay the consequences for that," Trump cautioned during the NBC interview, leaving the nature of those consequences unsaid. Musk's enterprises enjoy a variety of lucrative federal contracts.

Vice President JD Vance, in an interview, sought to downplay the dispute. He conceded that Musk was making a "huge mistake" by lashing out at Trump but characterized him as an "emotional guy" who is just venting his frustration.

"I hope that eventually Elon comes back into the fold. Maybe that's not possible now because he's gone so nuclear," Vance commented.

Vance commended Musk as an "incredible entrepreneur," and praised his Department of Government Efficiency for its role in reducing government spending, although it led to a significant number of layoffs or forced exits.

The conversation with Vance was captured last Thursday during a storm of controversial messages from Musk on X, the social media platform he owns.

Vance voiced his objection to one of Musk's tweets that called for Trump's impeachment and proposed nominating Vance as his successor, dismissing it as "This stuff is just not helpful."

He wrapped up by staunchly defending the commander-in-chief's work, insisting, "It's totally insane. The president is doing a good job."
